  • How do you acquire an internship?
    To acquire an internship, you should first research your desired field. Use our resources to reach out to professors. Sign up for HRSE today to find out the rest.
  • Is there a deadline for completing the HRSE course once enrolled?
    While HRSE is self-paced, there is a recommended timeframe for completing the course to maximize the chances of securing a research internship. However, we understand that each student's journey is unique, and accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis. You can find out more in our About page under Example Timeline.
  • Are HRSE participants required to travel for the research internship, or are remote opportunities available?
    Both options are possible. Some research internships may require travel to the professor's institution, while others can be conducted remotely. HRSE aims to facilitate both types of opportunities based on students' preferences and circumstances. But we do believe that in-person opportunities are more beneficial to both the students and the professors.
  • What happens if a student is unable to secure a research internship after completing the HRSE course?
    While HRSE boasts an impressive success rate for students securing internships, in some cases, factors beyond our control may affect the outcome. In such instances, we continue to support students, offering guidance and alternative options to explore other research avenues.
  • How much time should I dedicate to the HRSE course each week?
    The HRSE course is self-paced, allowing students to set their own study schedule. While the exact time commitment varies based on individual progress and engagement, we recommend dedicating 4-5 hours per week to make steady progress through the modules.
  • How does HRSE ensure the safety and ethical considerations of research internships?
    HRSE prioritizes the safety and well-being of its participants. We believe that all hosting institutions should adhere to ethical guidelines and follow appropriate safety protocols established by the hosting institutions. You can find out more under our Terms and Conditions and Disclaimer.
  • Who should apply for the HRSE program?
    The HRSE program is open to high school students who are passionate about scientific exploration, research, and are eager to gain valuable experience in a college laboratory setting. You can find out more in our Admissions page.
  • Are there any restrictions on the number of students accepted into the HRSE program?
    HRSE aims to offer equal opportunities to all qualified applicants. However, to ensure a high-quality experience, there may be a limited number of slots available for each cohort.
  • Is HRSE affiliated with any specific colleges or universities?
    HRSE is an independent program that aims to connect high school students with research opportunities at various colleges and universities. We do not have exclusive affiliations but our students have interned at a diverse range of institutions in the past.
  • Is HRSE limited to students in the United States?
    No, HRSE is open to high school students worldwide. To meet the program's eligibility criteria international students must submit their TOEFL score with a minimum score of 105.
  • Can students participate in HRSE if they have no prior research experience?
    Absolutely! HRSE is designed to accommodate students with varying levels of research experience. Whether you're a beginner or have some research background, the course offers valuable insights and guidance to help you succeed in securing a research internship.
  • Are there any prerequisites for applying to the HRSE program?
    There are no specific academic prerequisites for applying to HRSE. However, a strong interest in scientific research, motivation to learn, and a willingness to engage in the course material are essential qualities we look for in applicants.
  • Is there any age restriction for the HRSE program?
    HRSE is designed and open for all high achieving high school students, but typically juniors in highschool gravitate towards HRSE. Students must be 16 years or older by the time their internship is set to begin, as it is typically the minimum age in most research labs.
  • How much does the HRSE program cost?
    The HRSE program has a $25 application fee, and the course fee is a one-time payment of $500. This fee covers access to the comprehensive self-paced course material and support throughout the program.
  • Does HRSE provide funding for housing during the research internship?
    HRSE does not provide funding for housing during the research internship. Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation should they secure an internship opportunity. You can find out more in our About page under Program Rules.
  • Is financial assistance available for students who cannot afford the course fee?
    HRSE does not offer full financial assistance, we understand financial constraints may be a concern for some students but at this time, unfortunately HRSE it unable to provide financial support.
  • Can HRSE assist international students with visa requirements if they secure a research opportunity in the United States?
    HRSE can provide guidance and support related to securing a research opportunity, but visa requirements and processes are typically handled by the hosting institution or research lab. Students are advised to seek guidance from their research mentors or relevant authorities in such cases. As an organization, we do not cover visa and travel documents.
  • How can alumni get involved with HRSE after completing the program?
    HRSE alumni can stay connected by sharing their experiences, offering guidance to current applicants, and becoming mentors for new participants. You can find out more in our Connect page.
  • Can participating in HRSE increase my chances of getting accepted into a top college?
    While participation in HRSE can be a valuable addition to a college application, acceptance to top colleges is a multifaceted process that considers various factors. HRSE aims to provide students with meaningful experiences and skill development that can positively impact their college applications.
  • Are there opportunities for HRSE participants to publish their research findings?
    HRSE encourages students to publish their research findings when applicable. While publication opportunities may vary by research lab, we have had students in the past be co-authors on published research. We also provide students with guidance to create research presentations and posters to showcase their achievements.
  • Can HRSE help with obtaining letters of recommendation from professors and mentors?
    Yes, HRSE offers guidance on how to build strong relationships with professors and mentors during the research internship, which can lead to compelling letters of recommendation for college applications and future pursuits.
